PK O’Neill filed late Friday afternoon with the Secretary of State’s Office as a Republican candidate for State Assembly District 40. The District includes all of Carson City, the east side of Washoe Valley and parts of southeast Washoe County.
O’Neill has served previously in the 78th Session (2015) of the Legislature. As a freshman legislator he was able to pass all five of his sponsored Bills which were signed into law. The Bills included enhancements for crimes against the elderly, decreasing the cost of public school construction, allowing law enforcement to use improved technology, improving registration for the draft and augmenting the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society efforts to preserve the old NSP as a museum.
Republican incumbent, Al Kramer, has decided not to run for re-election. PK is hoping to win his endorsement saying, “Al has been an excellent representative for our District and I would be honored to have his support.”
“I want to continue the work on addressing our area’s mental health challenges including substance abuse, increasing the availability of labor skills training at Western Nevada College, improve Nevada’s business friendly position and keep our communities vibrant.”
PK is a retired Division Chief from the Nevada Department of Public Safety and has lived in the Carson City area for 40 years. He and his wife, Nancy have four adult children and six grandchildren.
O’Neill is currently a commissioner on the State Commission on Ethics, a member of the Board of Directors for the Carson Tahoe Health System and is the Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Salvation Army of Carson City & Douglas County and is an active parishioner at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
During his spare time, he enjoys volunteering at the Carson Animal Shelter, visiting with his grandchildren who are spread out across the country, traveling and touring on his motorcycle.
